Important Dates For The 2023 Matric Examination Results

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed the following important dates leading up to the release of the 2023 Matric Results:

  • Ministerial Announcement of National and Provincial Results – 18 January 2024
  • Provincial Release of Results to Students – 19 January 2024

Results Release Date

According to the official announcement by the Department of Basic Education, the minister for Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, will announce the National and Provincial Matric Results to the country on the 18th of January 2024.

Following the announcement by the minister on the 18th of January 2024, individual results will be made available to students on the 19th of January 2024.

Publication Of Results

On the 11th of January 2022, the Department of Basic Education announced that due to fears of overstepping the regulations of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), it would not be publishing results on public platforms. This was decided as the departement deemed the act of making individual results public knowledge illegal in accordance with the POPIA.

However this decision has been overturned and students can, as done in previous years, view their result, by means of the ID number and unique exam number, on a number of public media platforms.

Umalusi Approves Results

Umalusi (The Council for Quality Assurance in Education) announced via a public media statement, made by Council Chairperson Professor Jimmy Volmink, that it has given the green light for the announcement of the 2021 National Matric Results.

Having noted a number of reported irregularities, Umalusi announced that there were no systematic irregularities and that the results had not been adversely affected. The planned release of results could thus go ahead.

Online Release Of Results

The Department of Basic Education has once again urged students to register on their website to receive their results at the time of release on the 19th of January 2024.

The registrations have been open since the start of January 2024 and to make the process of getting their results a convenient experience it is recommended that students register online to get their results.
