How to get your Matric Results via SMS 2022:

  • Step 1: Open a new SMS message on your phone
  • Step 2: Fill in your ID Number and Exam Number as the message
  • Step 3: Send the SMS to this number: 35658
  • Step 4: Note that the SMS will cost R3 (Free SMS does not apply)
  • Step 5: Your exam number will be checked – if you send an incorrect exam number it will not work
  • Step 6: You will get your results once they are made available on 21 January 2022

How to get your Matric Results via USSD code 2022:

  • Step 1: Dial *120*35658# 
  • Step 2: Answer a few questions
  • Step 3: Enter your Exam Number
  • Step 4: You will be able to view your results

Note: Your exam Number will be checked before you are able to view your results. If the number is entered incorrectly, it will not work, and you will not be able to view your results. USSD is charged at R1,50 per minute. Free minutes do not apply. 

Online:

Online is a great option when you are looking for your matric results. There has been some confusion around whether or not results would be published online after the Department of Education stated earlier this year that results would not be posted on any public platforms as this goes against the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). 

However, the Matric results for the Class of 2021 will be released on public platforms after the Court ruled on January 18th in support of the appeal. 

Newspapers:

Matric Results Will Be Available At Your School In 2022

Matric results are always made available at the school you attended. Check with your school’s administration to see on which day they will be made available for you to view or collect. 

Adult Matric Results 2021

On the 26th of May 2021 the examination started, and on the 7th of July 2021 it ended. The department says that it was successful, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

239 024 participated in this exam. Here is how many students were for the National Senior Certificate and for the Amended Senior Certificate:

  • 95 929 were for the National Senior Certificate (NSC), and 
  • 143 499 were for the Amended Senior Certificate (SC)

Students can get their Adult Matric Results online from the Department of Basic Education website.

Positive Feedback For This Year (2021)

The following statement came from the Department of Basic Education:

“Despite the protests and the rise in infections during this period, in certain provinces, the marking was completed according to plan, observing the high standards commensurate with these examinations.”

Here are some of the positive outcomes:

  • Students that were tested positive – for COVID-19 or experiencing symptoms during the exam were allowed to write in a special isolated area venue
  • Cheating – that involved crib notes and cell phone usage were less than previous years

What Was This Examination Period Used For?

This particular examination period was used for the following cases:

  • Adult students that does not have a matric certificate
  • Students that wrote the November examination previously, but did not meet the requirements for a matric certificate
  • Students that wrote the November examination previously, and have passed, but want to improve their matric results
  • Learners that left school due to unforeseen circumstances
  • Learners that were absent but have a valid reason

*Students that are not satisfied with their marks can get their results, rechecked, remarked or viewed.

How to get your matric results from the Department of Education

Finding your matric results online is a fairly easy process if you follow these steps

  • Step 1: Visit the website of the Department of Education matric results page. 
  • Step 2: Enter your examination number.
  • Step 3: More personal details may be required.
  • Step 4: Press ‘search’. 
  • Step 5: Your matric results will now come up.

For a quick and easy method to receive your matric results as soon as they are released, students can use SMS.

All you have to do is register beforehand and you will get an SMS of your results when they are released on the 23rd of February. 

Here is how you can use the USSD service: 

  • Send an SMS to 35658.
  • You will be required to enter your ID number and your examination number.

USSD

USSD is a quick and easy way for you to get your matric results. If you do not want to go online or use an SMS, this might be the best way for you.

  • You will be required to answer some multiple-choice questions. 
  • Enter your ID and examination number.

Your Pass Level

When you pass matric, there are a few pass levels you can achieve that will determine how you passed your year. These include:

  • Bachelor Degree Pass
  • Diploma Pass
  • Higher Certificate Pass 
  • NCS Pass

Bachelor Degree Pass

To meet a BD pass, you need:

  • An APS score of 4 in at least 4 high credit subjects 
  • An APS score of 3 in your home language 
  • An APS score of 2 in any 2 other subjects  
  • A total APS score of 23

Diploma Pass

To meet a diploma pass you need:

  • An APS score of at least 3 in your home language 
  • An APS score of at least 3 in 4 high credit subjects 
  • An APS score of 2 in any other 2 subjects 
  • A total APS score of 19

Higher Certificate Pass

To meet an HC pass, you need:

  • An APS score of at least 3 in your home language 
  • An APS score of at least 3 in 2 other subjects 
  • An APS score of 2 in 3 other subjects
  • A total APS score of 15

NSC Pass

To get an NSC pass, you need: 

  • An APS score of at least 3 in your home language 
  • An APS score of at least 3 in 2 other subjects
  • An APS score of 2 in 4 other subjects
  • A total APS score of 14
