There are no specific subject requirements for financial management, except that you pass your maths subject. Some recommended subjects are:

  • Accounting 
  • Business Studies
  • Economic and Management Sciences

However, these are not requirements to study a Financial Management Course. 

Can I Study Finance With Maths Literacy?

Yes, you can. Some institutions will allow you to study a Financial Management Course with Maths Literacy, as long as you pass it.

Can I Study Finance Without Maths?

Yes, you do not have to have Maths to be eligible to study a finance course. However, you do need to have basic maths skills, so you will be required to have passed your maths subject, regardless of whether you took Maths or Maths Literacy. 

Can I Do Financial Management Without Matric?

Yes, there are many reputable distance learning colleges that offer short courses in financial management. One of these colleges is Skills Academy, which offers provider programmes in financial management. 

Provider programmes at Skills Academy are open-access, meaning there are only two entry requirements: 

  • You must be able to understand, read and write in English
  • You must be over the age of 16

This means you can study any of their three provider programmes in financial management even if you do not have Matric.

How Many Years Does It Take To Study Financial Management?

This depends on where you are studying, and what level you are studying at. 

If you are studying a Bachelor’s Degree in financial management, it will take a minimum of four years to complete your qualification. 

If you are studying for a Diploma in financial management, it depends on where you are studying. Diploma courses can take between one and three years to complete. 

If you are studying an accredited NATED Financial Management course, it will take a minimum of three years to complete. This consists of three certificate courses, each six months long, followed by 18 months of work experience. 

If you are studying a short course, it depends on where you study and what short course you study. The three provider programmes in financial management offered at Skills Academy range from four months to 12 months.
